“Poetic Journeys in Foreign Lands” Exhibition

In this exhibition, 14 artworks created by staff and students from HKU, as well as the general public are featured as dedications and responses to Yasi’s poetry. 12 miniature books created by visual arts students from Holy Family Canossian College are also displayed. These artworks, ranging from photography, drawing, painting and collage, are the visual representations of Yasi’s poetry from the participants’ perspectives.

A Tribute to Yasi: Poetic Journeys in Foreign Lands

With the delicate observation, the long neglected and forgotten uniqueness and diversity of Hong Kong have been illustrated in the literary works of Professor Leung Ping-kwan (1949 – 2013), better known under his pen name Yasi. Well-travelled Yasi further explored different cities by his vivid imagination, and his writings were also known for traversing the regional and cultural borders.

To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the passing of one of Hong Kong’s foremost literary figures, Read-Cycling, General Education Unit, Faculty of Arts and Department of Comparative Literature co-organise “A Tribute to Yasi: Poetic Journeys in Foreign Lands.”

Highlights on the March 1 event include music performances by multi-instrumentalist Hakgwai, saxophone ensemble La Sax, and storytelling by renowned storyteller and poet Uncle Hung. Supported by Hong Kong Studies Programme of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Hong Kong Open Print Shop, and Kin’s Kitchen, letterpress printing and rubber stamping workshop will be taken place and participants will also enjoy Chinese dim sum and tea from around the world.
